DNAL4
Description
DNAL4, also known as DNA ligase IV, is a crucial enzyme involved in the repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). These breaks are highly damaging to the genome and can lead to mutations, cell death, and cancer. DNAL4 plays a critical role in non-homologous end joining (NHEJ), a major pathway for DSB repair. NHEJ involves the direct ligation of broken DNA ends, restoring the integrity of the genome. DNAL4 interacts with other proteins, including XRCC4 and XLF, to form a complex that facilitates the accurate and efficient joining of DNA ends.

Mutations in the DNAL4 gene can lead to a rare genetic disorder called Ligase IV syndrome, characterized by severe immunodeficiency, developmental delays, and increased cancer risk.
