CYBC1

Description

The CYBC1 (cytochrome b-245 chaperone 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

CYBC1 acts as a chaperone, ensuring the stable expression of the CYBA and CYBB subunits, which form the cytochrome b-245 heterodimer. This heterodimer is crucial for the phagocyte respiratory burst, a key process in innate immunity. The respiratory burst involves the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that help destroy pathogens.

CYBC1 is also known as C17orf62, CGD5, Eros.
