COA8
Description
The COA8 (cytochrome c oxidase assembly factor 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
COA8 is essential for the assembly and function of cytochrome c oxidase complex (COX) IV, the final component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. It safeguards COX assembly from degradation caused by oxidative stress.
COA8 is also known as APOP, APOP1, APOPT1, C14orf153, MC4DN17.
Associated Diseases
- Mitochondrial complex IV deficiency, nuclear type 17
- Non-progressive predominantly posterior cavitating leukoencephalopathy with peripheral neuropathy
