CLDN9

Description

The CLDN9 (claudin 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

Claudin-9 is a protein in humans encoded by the CLDN9 gene. It is part of the claudin family and plays a role in hearing. This gene is active in the inner ear, olfactory epithelium, and anterior pituitary gland.

Claudin-9 is a key protein responsible for tightly sealing the gaps between cells, preventing leakage. This sealing action happens independently of calcium, relying on a unique cell-adhesion mechanism.

CLDN9 is also known as DFNB116.
