Description
CCT5, also known as TCP-1 epsilon, is a gene encoding a subunit of the chaperonin containing TCP-1 (CCT) complex. This complex plays a vital role in the proper folding of a wide range of proteins, particularly those involved in cytoskeletal assembly, cell signaling, and stress response. CCT5, along with other CCT subunits, forms a barrel-shaped structure that interacts with unfolded proteins, promoting their correct folding and preventing misfolding and aggregation. Mutations in CCT5 can disrupt this process, leading to various cellular dysfunctions and disease.
