AGT : angiotensinogen

Description

The AGT gene, located on chromosome 1, encodes for angiotensinogen, a precursor protein that plays a crucial role in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). This system is responsible for regulating blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. Angiotensinogen is converted to angiotensin I by renin, and then to angiotensin II by angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Angiotensin II acts as a potent vasoconstrictor, leading to increased blood pressure. The AGT gene is highly regulated, with its expression influenced by various factors, including hormones, stress, and dietary intake. Mutations in the AGT gene can lead to various cardiovascular diseases.
