PPP2R5A

Description

The PPP2R5A (protein phosphatase 2 regulatory subunit B'alpha) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The PPP2R5A gene in humans encodes for the Serine/threonine-protein phosphatase 2A 56 kDa regulatory subunit alpha isoform, an enzyme belonging to the phosphatase 2A regulatory subunit B family. Protein phosphatase 2A is one of the four major Ser/Thr phosphatases and plays a role in negatively regulating cell growth and division. It consists of a core enzyme composed of a catalytic subunit and a constant regulatory subunit that binds to various regulatory subunits. The B regulatory subunit may influence substrate selectivity and catalytic activity. This gene produces the alpha isoform of the regulatory subunit B56 subfamily.

This subunit potentially influences the choice of molecules that the enzyme acts upon (substrate selectivity) and how quickly it works (catalytic activity). It might also guide the enzyme to specific locations within the cell (subcellular compartment).

PPP2R5A is also known as B56A, B56alpha, PR61A.
