PPP2R2B

Description

The PPP2R2B (protein phosphatase 2 regulatory subunit Bbeta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

PPP2R2B gene encodes Serine/threonine-protein phosphatase 2A 55 kDa regulatory subunit B beta isoform, an enzyme involved in regulating cell growth and division. This protein belongs to the phosphatase 2 regulatory subunit B family and is part of the larger Protein phosphatase 2 complex. This complex consists of a catalytic subunit and a constant regulatory subunit that associate with various regulatory subunits, including the B regulatory subunit encoded by PPP2R2B. The B regulatory subunit is thought to influence substrate selectivity and catalytic activity. Defects in the 5' UTR of this gene may cause a rare form of autosomal dominant spinocerebellar ataxia 12.

The B regulatory subunit plays a crucial role in modulating substrate selectivity and catalytic activity of the enzyme. Additionally, it directs the localization of the catalytic enzyme within specific cellular compartments. Within the PP2A holoenzyme complex, isoform 2 is essential for promoting proapoptotic activity. Moreover, isoform 2 regulates neuronal survival by maintaining a balance between mitochondrial fission and fusion.

PPP2R2B is also known as B55BETA, PP2AB55BETA, PP2ABBETA, PP2APR55B, PP2APR55BETA, PR2AB55BETA, PR2ABBETA, PR2APR55BETA, PR52B, PR55-BETA, PR55BETA, SCA12.
