PPP1R13B

Description

The PPP1R13B (protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 13B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

PPP1R13B gene encodes a protein belonging to the ASPP (apoptosis-stimulating protein of p53) family, which interacts with p53. The protein contains four ankyrin repeats and an SH3 domain involved in protein-protein interactions. ASPP proteins are essential for p53-family proteins to induce apoptosis. They enhance the DNA binding and transactivation of p53-family proteins on the promoters of proapoptotic genes. The expression of PPP1R13B is regulated by the E2F transcription factor.

PPP1R13B plays a critical role in regulating apoptosis by interacting with p53/TP53 (PubMed:11684014, PubMed:12524540). It enhances the DNA binding and transactivation function of TP53 on the promoters of proapoptotic genes in vivo, thereby promoting cell death.

PPP1R13B is also known as ASPP1, p53BP2-like, p85.
