POU4F3

Description

The POU4F3 (POU class 4 homeobox 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

POU domain, class 4, transcription factor 3 (POU4F3) is a protein encoded by the POU4F3 gene in humans. It belongs to the BRN-3 group, also known as the POU family class 4. DFNA15, a type of nonsyndromic deafness with autosomal dominant inheritance, is associated with this gene.

POU4F3 acts as a transcriptional activator, binding to sequences resembling the octamer motif 5'-ATGCAAAT-3' within the regulatory regions of its target genes. It plays a crucial role in auditory system development, being essential for the terminal differentiation of hair cells in the inner ear.

POU4F3 is also known as BRN3C, DFNA15, DFNA42, DFNA52.
