POLR2D

Description

The POLR2D (RNA polymerase II subunit D) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The POLR2D gene encodes the fourth-largest subunit of RNA polymerase II, the enzyme responsible for synthesizing messenger RNA in eukaryotes. In yeast, this polymerase subunit is associated with the polymerase under suboptimal growth conditions and may have a stress protective role. A sequence for a ribosomal pseudogene is contained within the 3' untranslated region of the transcript from this gene.

The POLR2D/RPB4 protein, along with POLR2G/RPB7, forms a subcomplex that binds to a specific pocket within the RNA polymerase II (Pol II) enzyme. This subcomplex plays a crucial role in regulating the entry of double-stranded DNA into the active site of Pol II. It binds to single-stranded DNA and RNA, suggesting involvement in transcription initiation and elongation.

POLR2D is also known as HSRBP4, HSRPB4, RBP4, RPB16, RPB4.
