POLE3

Description

The POLE3 (DNA polymerase epsilon 3, accessory subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

POLE3, a histone-fold protein encoded by the POLE3 gene, interacts with other histone-fold proteins to bind DNA in a sequence-independent manner. These dimers form larger enzymatic complexes for DNA transcription, replication, and packaging. POLE3 has been shown to interact with SMARCA5.

POLE3 is an accessory component of the DNA polymerase epsilon complex, playing a role in DNA repair and chromosomal DNA replication. It forms a complex with CHRAC1, binding naked DNA and facilitating its incorporation into chromatin with the help of ISWI/SNF2H and ACF1's nucleosome-remodeling activity. However, POLE3 does not enhance the nucleosome sliding activity of the ACF-5 ISWI chromatin remodeling complex.

POLE3 is also known as CHARAC17, CHRAC17, CHRAC2, YBL1, p17.
