POLA2

Description

The POLA2 (DNA polymerase alpha 2, accessory subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

DNA polymerase alpha subunit 2 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the POLA2 gene. POLA2 has been shown to interact with PARP1.

POLA2, as an accessory subunit of the DNA polymerase alpha complex, plays a crucial role in initiating DNA synthesis. During the S phase of the cell cycle, the complex, composed of POLA1, POLA2, PRIM1, and PRIM2, is recruited to DNA replication forks through interactions with MCM10 and WDHD1. The primase subunit (PRIM1 and PRIM2) initiates DNA synthesis by producing short RNA primers on both leading and lagging strands. These primers are then extended by the catalytic subunit (POLA1) and subsequently transferred to polymerase delta and epsilon for further synthesis on the lagging and leading strands, respectively.

POLA2 is also known as -.
