PNO1

Description

The PNO1 (partner of NOB1 homolog) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

PNO1, an RNA-binding protein, is encoded by the PNO1 gene in humans.

PNO1 plays a crucial role in the assembly of the small subunit (SSU) processome, the initial precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. Within the nucleolus, PNO1 interacts with various ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone, and ribosomal proteins. This complex orchestration results in RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements, and cleavage of pre-ribosomal RNA, including targeted degradation by the RNA exosome. Additionally, PNO1 positively regulates the dimethylation of two adjacent adenosines within the loop of a conserved hairpin near the 3'-end of 18S rRNA.

PNO1 is also known as KHRBP1, RRP20.
