The PLEKHG3 (pleckstrin homology and RhoGEF domain containing G3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
PLEKHG3 plays a crucial role in regulating cell polarity and movement. It achieves this by selectively binding to newly formed actin filaments, which are essential components of the cell's cytoskeleton. This binding triggers the activation of RAC1 and CDC42, two proteins that further stimulate the formation of actin filaments, thereby enhancing localized actin polymerization and contributing to the overall cell polarity and motility.
