PLEKHA3

Description

The PLEKHA3 (pleckstrin homology domain containing A3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

PLEKHA3 plays a role in regulating the movement of cargo within cells, specifically from the trans-Golgi network to the plasma membrane. It also controls the levels of a specific lipid, phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PtdIns(4)P), in the Golgi apparatus. When bound to PtdIns(4)P, PLEKHA3 activates an enzyme called SACM1L which helps to break down PtdIns(4)P. PLEKHA3 binds preferentially to PtdIns(4)P and has been shown to reduce the secretion of a protein called APOB from liver cells.

PLEKHA3 is also known as FAPP1.
