PIRT
Description
The PIRT (phosphoinositide interacting regulator of transient receptor potential channels) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
PIRT acts as a regulatory subunit for TRPV1, a protein that senses harmful heat and capsaicin (the spicy compound in chili peppers). PIRT enhances the activity of TRPV1 by interacting with a specific type of lipid molecule called phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2). PIRT can bind to various phosphoinositide lipids, including PIP2, but it doesn't bind to another similar lipid called phosphatidylinositol (PI).
PIRT is also known as -.
