PIK3C2B

Description

The PIK3C2B (phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate 3-kinase catalytic subunit type 2 beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

PIK3C2B encodes a protein that belongs to the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) family, which plays important roles in various cellular processes, including cell proliferation, oncogenic transformation, cell survival, migration, and intracellular protein trafficking. The protein contains a lipid kinase catalytic domain and a C-terminal C2 domain, characteristic of class II PI3-kinases. The C2 domain binds phospholipids and may mediate protein-protein interactions. PIK3C2B's PI3-kinase activity is sensitive to low nanomolar levels of the inhibitor wortmannin.

PIK3C2B phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol (PtdIns) and phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PtdIns4P), with a preference for PtdIns. It does not phosphorylate phosphatidylinositol (4,5)-bisphosphate (PtdIns(4,5)P2). PIK3C2B may participate in the epidermal growth factor (EGF) and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling pathways.

PIK3C2B is also known as C2-PI3K.
