PIGZ
Description
The PIGZ (phosphatidylinositol glycan anchor biosynthesis class Z) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.
PIGZ is a mannosyltransferase enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors. It plays a role in adding a fourth mannose sugar to some trimannosyl-GPIs during the assembly of GPI precursors. The addition of this fourth mannose is not mandatory (facultative) and is rarely observed, suggesting its presence is restricted to certain tissues.
PIGZ is also known as GPI-MT-IV, PIG-Z, SMP3.
