Description

The PGPEP1 (pyroglutamyl-peptidase I) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The PGPEP1 gene in humans encodes the enzyme Pyroglutamyl-peptidase I.

This enzyme removes 5-oxoproline from the penultimate amino acid residue of various peptides, except for L-proline.

PGPEP1 is also known as PAP-I, PGI, PGP, PGP-I, PGPI, Pcp.
