PFN2

Description

The PFN2 (profilin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

PFN2 is a protein encoded by the PFN2 gene in humans. It's a ubiquitous actin monomer-binding protein belonging to the profilin family. PFN2 is thought to regulate actin polymerization in response to external signals. Two different isoforms of the protein are produced through alternative splicing. PFN2 has been shown to interact with ROCK1, Vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein, CCDC113 and FMNL1.

PFN2 binds to actin and influences the organization of the cytoskeleton. High concentrations of PFN2 inhibit actin polymerization, while low concentrations promote it. PFN2 also interacts with PIP2, preventing the production of IP3 and DG.

PFN2 is also known as D3S1319E, PFL.
