PDZD8


Description

The PDZD8 (PDZ domain containing 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

PDZD8 is a molecular tethering protein that connects the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondrial membranes, playing a crucial role in calcium ion (Ca(2+)) transfer between these organelles. PDZD8-dependent ER-mitochondria tethering is essential for Ca(2+) transfer from the ER to mitochondria. In neurons, PDZD8 regulates dendritic Ca(2+) dynamics by controlling mitochondrial Ca(2+) uptake. Additionally, PDZD8 indirectly affects cell morphology and cytoskeletal organization. It has been shown to inhibit herpes simplex virus 1 infection at an early stage.

PDZD8 is also known as IDDADF, PDZK8.
