PDE8A

Description

The PDE8A (phosphodiesterase 8A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

PDE8A encodes a high-affinity cAMP-specific phosphodiesterase that is insensitive to IBMX. Five transcript variants and their corresponding isoforms are expressed in human macrophages. PDE8A may be required by HIV-1 for its replication.

PDE8A hydrolyzes cAMP, a key regulator of various physiological processes. It may contribute to maintaining basal cAMP levels and regulate cAMP-dependent germ cell development. PDE8A's interaction with RAF1 reduces inhibitory phosphorylation of RAF1 at Ser-259, activating RAF1 and promoting EGF-activated ERK signaling. This interaction also protects against cell death induced by hydrogen peroxide and staurosporine.

PDE8A is also known as HsT19550.
