PDE4A
Description
The PDE4A (phosphodiesterase 4A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
PDE4A is an enzyme encoded by the PDE4A gene in humans. It belongs to the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDE) family and the PDE4 subfamily. PDE4A hydrolyzes cAMP, a crucial regulator of cellular responses to extracellular signals, and plays a significant role in many physiological processes. Research using PDE4A knockout mice suggests its involvement in regulating anxiety and emotional memory. PDE4A inhibition is targeted by various drugs, including rolipram (antidepressant and antiinflammatory), cilomilast (antiinflammatory), and roflumilast (antiinflammatory). These drugs inhibit specific PDE4A isoforms.
PDE4A hydrolyzes the second messenger 3',5'-cyclic AMP (cAMP), which plays a key role in regulating numerous important physiological processes.
