OTX1

Description

The OTX1 (orthodenticle homeobox 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The OTX1 gene encodes a homeobox protein, OTX1, which is a member of the bicoid sub-family of homeodomain-containing transcription factors. This protein acts as a transcription factor and may be involved in the development of the brain and sensory organs. It is active in the region of the first gill arch, which is associated with the upper and lower jaw and two ear bones. A similar protein in mice is essential for normal brain and sensory organ development and can lead to epilepsy.

OTX1 likely contributes to the development of the brain and sensory organs. It can bind to the BCD target sequence (BTS), which is the DNA sequence 5'-TCTAATCCC-3'.

OTX1 is also known as -.
