OSBPL1A
Description
The OSBPL1A (oxysterol binding protein like 1A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.
OSBPL1A, a member of the oxysterol-binding protein (OSBP) family, is a protein involved in intracellular lipid transport and signaling. This gene encodes a protein with an N-terminal pleckstrin homology domain and a conserved C-terminal OSBP-like sterol-binding domain. Various isoforms are generated through alternative splicing and promoter usage.
OSBPL1A binds to phospholipids, particularly phosphatidic acid, and to a lesser extent, phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate. It stabilizes the GTP-bound form of RAB7A on late endosomes/lysosomes, influencing the functionality of late endocytic compartments through its interaction with RAB7A. OSBPL1A also binds 25-hydroxycholesterol and cholesterol.
OSBPL1A is also known as ORP-1, ORP1, OSBPL1B.
