GHR : growth hormone receptor

Description

The GHR gene provides instructions for making the growth hormone receptor (GHR), a protein found on the surface of cells. This receptor binds to growth hormone (GH), a protein produced by the pituitary gland. GH binding to GHR triggers a cascade of events within the cell, ultimately leading to growth and development. GHR plays a crucial role in childhood growth, regulating cell division, protein synthesis, and overall body size. It also influences metabolism, glucose uptake, and other bodily processes. Variations in the GHR gene can lead to growth disorders, including dwarfism and gigantism.
