OR9Q1

Description

The OR9Q1 (olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily Q member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR9Q1 gene in humans produces the olfactory receptor 9Q1 protein. This protein is a member of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), all of which are involved in the sense of smell. When odorant molecules bind to these receptors in the nose, they initiate a chain of events that ultimately leads to the perception of a smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and each receptor is responsible for recognizing specific odorant molecules. The OR9Q1 gene, like other olfactory receptor genes, arises from a single coding-exon gene.

A type of odorant receptor.
