OR9I1

Description

The OR9I1 (olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily I member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR9I1 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 9I1. This protein, along with other olfactory receptors, interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that we perceive as smell. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals. The OR9I1 gene, like other olfactory receptor genes, is a single coding-exon gene. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome.

Odorant receptor.

OR9I1 is also known as OR11-228.
