OR9G1

Description

The OR9G1 (olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily G member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR9G1 gene encodes for the olfactory receptor 9G1 protein in humans. Olfactory receptors are responsible for recognizing and responding to odorant molecules in the nose, triggering the perception of smell. They belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. This structure allows them to bind odorant molecules and initiate a signal transduction pathway via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming of olfactory receptors is independent across species.

OR9G1 is also known as OR9G5.
