OR9A2

Description

The OR9A2 (olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily A member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

The OR9A2 gene encodes for olfactory receptor 9A2, a protein involved in smell perception. Olfactory receptors bind to odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response. OR9A2 belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), with a 7-transmembrane domain structure. This family is responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals via G protein-mediated transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome.
