OR8K5

Description

The OR8K5 (olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily K member 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 8K5 is a protein in humans encoded by the OR8K5 gene. It's part of the olfactory receptor family, a large group of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in smell perception. These receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that leads to the sense of smell. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with other receptors like neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and are responsible for recognizing odorant signals and transducing them via G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the nomenclature assigned to its members is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR8K5 is also known as OR11-174.
