OR8J1

Description

The OR8J1 (olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily J member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR8J1 gene encodes a protein known as Olfactory receptor 8J1. This protein is involved in the sense of smell. It works by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, which triggers a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. OR8J1 is a member of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G protein-mediated pathways. The gene family for olfactory receptors is the largest in the human genome.

Odorant receptor.

OR8J1 is also known as OR11-183.
