OR8H3

Description

The OR8H3 (olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily H member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

OR8H3 is a human gene that encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 8H3. This protein is involved in our sense of smell. It interacts with odor molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that allows us to perceive smells. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are proteins that share a similar seven-transmembrane domain structure. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G proteins. The gene family for olfactory receptors is the largest in the human genome, and the naming system used for these receptors is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR8H3 is also known as OR11-172.
