OR8D4

Description

The OR8D4 (olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily D member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 8D4 is a protein encoded by the OR8D4 gene in humans. It plays a role in smell perception by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response. This protein belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), arising from single coding-exon genes. Like many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, olfactory receptor proteins share a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They are responsible for recognizing odorant signals and transducing them through G protein-mediated mechanisms. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR8D4 is also known as OR11-275.
