OR7C1

Description

The OR7C1 (olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily C member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

OR7C1 is a human gene encoding a protein called Olfactory receptor 7C1. This protein plays a crucial role in our sense of smell. It interacts with odor molecules in the nose, initiating a chain reaction that leads to the perception of a smell. Olfactory receptors are a large family of proteins that are part of the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) group. They have a unique structure with seven transmembrane domains, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odor signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the nomenclature for these genes and proteins is distinct from that of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR7C1 is also known as CIT-HSP-146E8, HSTPCR86P, OR19-5, OR7C4, TPCR86.
