OR6X1

Description

The OR6X1 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily X member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR6X1 gene in humans encodes for the Olfactory receptor 6X1 protein. This protein is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting smells. These receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. The OR6X1 protein, like other olfactory receptors, shares a 7-transmembrane domain structure with various neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. This structure allows it to recognize and transduce odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the nomenclature for these genes and proteins is independent from other organisms.

This protein functions as an odorant receptor, involved in the detection of smells.

OR6X1 is also known as OR11-270.
