OR6P1

Description

The OR6P1 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily P member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

Olfactory receptor 6P1 is a protein in humans encoded by the OR6P1 gene. Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. These receptors are members of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) arising from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, with a nomenclature independent of other organisms.
