OR6N1

Description

The OR6N1 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily N member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The OR6N1 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 6N1. This protein is found in the nose and is responsible for detecting odors. It works by binding to odorant molecules and initiating a signal that travels to the brain, where it is interpreted as a smell. OR6N1 is a member of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are involved in a variety of cellular signaling processes. Like other GPCRs, OR6N1 has a 7-transmembrane domain structure. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome.

This protein is involved in detecting and responding to odorant molecules.

OR6N1 is also known as OR1-22.
