OR6M1

Description

The OR6M1 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily M member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 6M1 is a protein encoded by the OR6M1 gene in humans. It plays a role in the sense of smell, interacting with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response that leads to smell perception. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each encoded by a single coding-exon gene. They share a common 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and are responsible for recognizing odorant signals and transducing them through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, with a unique naming system for this species.

Odorant receptor.

OR6M1 is also known as OR11-271.
