OR6K6

Description

The OR6K6 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily K member 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

OR6K6 is a protein in humans encoded by the OR6K6 gene. It is involved in the sense of smell. OR6K6, like other olfactory receptors, interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to start a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. OR6K6 is part of a large group of proteins called G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). These receptors share a common structure with many other receptors for neurotransmitters and hormones. Olfactory receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G proteins. The gene family for olfactory receptors is the largest in the human genome. The naming system used for olfactory receptor genes and proteins is unique to humans.

OR6K6 is an odorant receptor, a type of protein that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose. This interaction triggers a neuronal response, leading to the perception of a smell.

OR6K6 is also known as OR1-21.
