Olfactory receptor 6K2 is a protein that is encoded by the OR6K2 gene in humans. It functions as part of the olfactory system, interacting with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and share a common 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G protein-mediated transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome.
