OR6F1
Description
The OR6F1 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily F member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
The OR6F1 gene encodes for the Olfactory receptor 6F1 protein in humans. This protein, a member of the G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) family, interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. OR6F1, like other olfactory receptors, shares a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and is responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G protein mediation. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature used for this family in humans is distinct from that used in other organisms.
Odorant receptor.
OR6F1 is also known as OR1-34, OR1-38, OST731.
