OR6C2

Description

The OR6C2 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

The OR6C2 gene encodes a protein called Olfactory receptor 6C2. This protein is involved in smell perception. It binds to odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the sensation of a smell. OR6C2 belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are characterized by their 7-transmembrane domain structure. These receptors are essential for the recognition and transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome.

This protein functions as an odorant receptor, responsible for detecting and transducing odorant signals.

OR6C2 is also known as OR6C67.
