OR6C1

Description

The OR6C1 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

The OR6C1 gene encodes the olfactory receptor 6C1 protein in humans. Olfactory receptors are part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each encoded by a single coding-exon gene. They are responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose and initiating a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for recognizing odorant signals and transducing them via G protein-mediated signaling. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming convention for olfactory receptor genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR6C1 is also known as OST267.
