OR5P2

Description

The OR5P2 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily P member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 5P2 is a protein encoded by the OR5P2 gene in humans. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response, leading to smell perception. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and have a 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature used for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

OR5P2 is also known as JCG3, JCG4.
