OR5H2

Description

The OR5H2 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily H member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

Olfactory receptor 5H2 is a protein encoded by the OR5H2 gene in humans. It's part of the olfactory receptor family, a large group of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that detect odorant molecules in the nose. These receptors have a 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. When odorants bind to olfactory receptors, they trigger a neuronal response, ultimately leading to the perception of smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms.

OR5H2 is also known as OR3-10.
