OR5F1

Description

The OR5F1 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily F member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

OR5F1 is a human gene that codes for the protein Olfactory receptor 5F1. This protein is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting smells. When odorant molecules bind to the olfactory receptor 5F1 protein, it triggers a neuronal response, ultimately leading to the perception of a smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the nomenclature for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR5F1 is also known as OR11-10.
