OR5D16

Description

The OR5D16 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily D member 16) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

OR5D16 is a human gene that encodes a protein involved in smell perception. This protein, known as olfactory receptor 5D16, interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that allows us to smell. It belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and shares a common structure with many other receptors involved in neurotransmission and hormone signaling. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome and plays a crucial role in our sense of smell.

This protein acts as an odorant receptor, responsible for detecting and responding to specific smells.

OR5D16 is also known as OR11-154.
