OR5AR1

Description

The OR5AR1 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily AR member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 5AR1 is a protein encoded by the OR5AR1 gene in humans. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to smell perception. Olfactory receptors belong to the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), originating from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR5AR1 is also known as OR11-209.
